The satellite used to image the area around Charlotte International Airport caught a plane in flight!
By far one of the creepiest Google Map Easter eggs I’ve ever seen.

Zach Anner, a young Austinite with cerebral palsy (the sexiest of the palsies), pitches a travel show “designed to inspire people who never thought they could travel” for Oprah’s Your Own Show competition.

This is genuinely HILARUIOUS. Please let him get the show. can you imagine that!?

From the tumblr staff blog:
“As we’re all aware by now, one of the worst environmental disasters in recorded history is underway in the Gulf.
As helpless as you may feel, you can do something right now by donating to a Gulf protection group like Save Our Gulf, the National Audubon Society, or the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
To get all of you involved this week, we’re replacing Tumblr’s usual ocean blue with a new heart-of-BP-executive black and letting you donate without leaving your Dashboard.
Donating will also unlock the Limited Edition Black Dashboard as an account preference.”
Just do it. $5.

I missed the Crit race this morning because of work. I’m at least glad the rain held out long enough for the pros to race.

Road racing requires stamina, strength, focus and fortitude, yet the rewards can be huge; the more effort you put in the greater those rewards become. More and more men are discovering that riding a road bike can be the perfect counterpoint to the cosseted and quick-fix nature of modern life. In a society only too comfortable with instant gratification and sanitised pleasure, it has been forgotten that the greatest highs come from the deepest lows. Applying yourself totally can produce a sense of satisfaction that is impossible to replicate. From pain comes pleasure.
Rapha does something that most cycling clothiers don’t, they make cycling just about as glamorous and euphoric as you can without sugar coating the pain.

If you follow anyone that rides bikes (of any kind), who is 18-28 years old, and likes clean design and/or fashion: you have heard of Rapha.

That’s who rapha apeals to. Young riders who dont want to look like a NASCAR fan when they wear a jersey. Minimalistic jerseys, hats, and great jackets all with slight vintage tones.

They are aiming for a lucrative and growing market. With the explosion in bike culture over the last 5 years (fixies and environmentally conscious travelers) there are suddenly lots more people riding and lots more people transitioning into real riding. Be honest, next to no one rides that fixie conversion you threw together last summer for more than a year. After that, you either drop a grand on a real track bike, or on a real road bike. If you choose the later (like I did) then you are now looking for a full kit of stuff to ride in.

All that being said, DAMN if that stuff isn’t expensive! Time to start on my 2010 Christmas list.

Also, make sure you check out the Rides section of the site for more of the most elegant and beautiful videos online. Above is from Asheville, NC.

Old Man, Young Soul

This man shows up on The Sartorialist every now and then; always dressed well, always on his bike. He just looks smooth. He looks, organic. Nothing is forced.

I would kill to spend an afternoon with this nameless Milanese gentleman. He may end up being an asshole but, in my mind, he is me in 50 years. The me I hope I’ll be in 50 years.

AMC just released the first images from its highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s ongoing comic book series The Walking Dead.
“The six-episode first season — written, produced and directed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) — follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.”
So excited!

Merde Tete
This is a site that I have been posting on for over a year now and honestly, not enough people read (i guess actually, look) it. I post only pictures. All the things I find and love. All the pretty things. It is incredible how precisely this matches my style. Its like curating your own museum. No extra fluff. Just the images that for whatever reason, strike a chord.
So anyway, yeah, follow it.

This is plain clever, cool, and important. Earthjustice has begun a Foursquare-integrated campaign, using San Francisco’s BART system. Confused yet? Well, as the image above describes, all you have to do is check-in at Earthjustice Ad, many of which are located in BART stations, and the nonprofit will donate $10 to stop unsafe oil drilling. Campaigns like this and the Haiti/texting initiative are great ways to engage younger or tech savvy types who are conscious of these issues. Bravo on this one.
